“The Colorado Cherokee Circle is honored to share that our community has received the Cultural Perpetuation Award from the Cherokee Nation Community and Cultural Outreach office of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
Our group aims to provide opportunities to share and receive cultural knowledge that can both bring us closer together and educate one another. Some of the initiatives that have occurred over the past year include monthly gatherings that include Cherokee artists, history, and culture (which has continued thanks to Zoom!); an arts and crafts group that meets independently of our monthly general gatherings; and delving into language lessons which we hope to increase. Our group has also been able to share culture to our broader community with participation in the American Indian Festival with a booth and arts display, speaking and giving the invocation for the Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy annual event which includes tribes across Alaska and the Lower 48; and involvement with the National Eagle Repository.
We succeed due to the amazing contributions of our membership. This award belongs to ALL of us and we are thankful to be able to perpetuate our culture here in Colorado. Wado!“
