Siyo,
Many of you have received texts today from a campaign saying that today is the last day to “register to vote absentee” in the upcoming election and a link taking you to a fillable form. That is confusing language since the last day to register to vote in the upcoming election was March 31. Today is the last day to request an absentee ballot for that election, but you can no longer register to vote at this time. You must already be registered to vote at this point.
The election commission does not accept an electronic signature so you will need to print out the form and sign it. I don’t know if the form allows you to do an electronic signature, but if it does, I would like to caution that the form will be thrown out if submitted to the election commission with an electronic signature. (The form also appears to go through a third party before going on to the Election Commission.)
It is unfortunate that this has happened as it has the potential to suppress the At Large vote. Once again I am attaching the Election Commission’s form for you to print and sign and then (1) fax or (2) scan/photo and email directly to the Election Commission before midnight tonight.
Best wishes!
Julia
