The Colorado Cherokee Circle will be enjoying the annual Summer Green Corn Picnic at the Mt. Vernon Canyon Club picnic grounds this coming Saturday, August 17th from 10 AM to noon (or a little longer). This will be a pot luck. Bring something good to share! We do not need any paper products. A-G main dish, H-P side dish, Q-Z dessert!
Our program will be a report from Tommy Jones, Gwen Ahlers and John Gritts about their trip to the Cherokee Nation for the Cherokee Leadership & Cultural Conference in Tahlequah. An update from Tommy and John about the donations to the Cherokee Elders Inc, Locust Grove, OK.
To get to Mt. Vernon Canyon Club Picnic area the easiest and most simple way is to take I-70 West to Exit 254 which is he Genesee and Buffalo Herd Exit. Go north on Mount Vernon Country Club Road past Rockland Church and Ralston School. Once you pass through the Stone Markers into the Club turn on the first left onto Centennial Trail Road following it down the hill. At the bottom of the hill will be a sign to turn into the picnic grounds beside the old tennis courts. There will be signs directing you to the Picnic area.
Some of you will use your GPS which will tell you to exit at Exit 256 which is Lookout Mountain. If you follow the GPS it will take you to the Mount Vernon Canyon Club House/Swimming Pool/and Tennis Courts. You will get lost! Trust me go to Exit 254 to exit. It is much easier to get to the picnic area.
