Thanksgiving Gathering and Pot Luck

Please join us for the November meeting where Cherokee citizen and award winning artist Kenny Henson will be presenting a slide show of his art and telling stories about the inspiration behind his work.

Kenny was born and raised in the Tahlequah/Oaks area and learned traditional ways and culture from his full blood father. His mother was part Cherokee and the daughter of a cattle rancher in Adair County. It was his connection to the land and blend of cultures that provides the inspiration for his art. Kenny has been painting for over 30 years, and won numerous awards from “First Place” to “Best of Show”, most recently his painting “Native Kings” won numerous awards: 2019 Bartlesville Indian Summer Arts Festival – Featured Artist (2018 Best of Show Winner), 2018 -Honorable Choice Award Cherokee Holiday Homecoming Art Show, 3rd Place at Arts Under the Oaks in Muskogee. Also, in 2019  – 1st Place for “Gift of Gold” at Indian Summer Arts Festival in Bartlesville. Kenny’s painting “Ayoka” Sequoyah teaching his Daughter (Ayoka) the Cherokee Syllabary (pictured) was featured for the 2019 Cherokee Nation Community meeting.

Kenny currently works as a CAD Engineer for Cherokee Nation Industries, and lives on a small farm with his wife Carla in Proctor, OK. From the banks of Baron Fork Creek he gets to view nature at its best just outside his studio window.
