Osiyo Nigada!
Our next gathering we will view, critique and share dialogue about the first part of the documentary series titled “Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy” which is part of the Native American Documentary Collection.
Summary for this documentary:
“This two hour documentary explores one of the great historical tragedies of America’s aboriginal people. In 1830, eager to gain access to lands inhabited by Native Americans, President Andrew Jackson enacted the Indian Removal Act which forced the Cherokee Nation to leave their homeland and relocate into uncharted territory. Many of these forced settlers suffered from exposure, disease and starvation and upon arriving in Indian Territory, they arrived with no past and no future.”
We look forward to discussing our reactions to the documentary and sharing stories we know regarding this pivotal time in our history.
We will have popcorn and water for the group. Bring your favorite drink!
