Doris and Charlie Shell have been married for 40 years. They are from the Greasy Community, a rural located community in the heart of the Cherokee Nation. Doris and Charlie have three children, though they have raised countless children in their community. Their eight grandchildren are their pride and joy.
Charlie and Doris’ marriage has centered around pastoring churches throughout the Cherokee Nation. Charlie is one of the few remaining Cherokee speaking pastors in the Cherokee Baptist Association. Doris and Charlie are pillars of their community. The Shells are founding members of the Greasy Community Fellowship Organization, and Charlie has served on the Greasy School Board for over a decade.
Both are strong Cherokee language advocates. Doris is a Master Speaker in the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program. Together, the two have worked for the Cherokee Nation for more than fifty years.
